Our test oxide varistor capabilities include parameters such as insulation resistance, leakage current, surge current, and voltage. In addition, we can measure the capacitance of the MOV, which helps us to determine the device's ability to absorb peak voltage. We also check the temperature coefficient of the device to ensure that it meets the specified requirements. Finally, our team of experienced engineers can perform a root cause analysis to determine the cause of any issues with the MOV. TGE applies a combination of routine testing and sampling verification to monitor MOV quality from production batches through final release. Routine tests are used to confirm key electrical characteristics of each MOV, while sampling tests evaluate long-term stability and surge withstand capability under more demanding conditions.
TGE's high-current test capability includes impulse current generation up to 200 kA for 4/10 µs waveforms, up to 100 kA for 8/20 µs waveforms, and up to 65 kA for 2/20 µs waveforms. These facilities support development verification, process monitoring and application-specific testing for MOVs used in distribution, station, line, GIS and DC surge arresters.
